DREAMING YOUR REALITY

There was a film shown on TV recently called The Sphere. In it, Dustin Hoffman and others are sent to the bottom of the sea to explore an alien craft lying on the seabed. Within the craft, the crew come across an enormous, living sphere. One by one, each crew member enters the sphere and, when they emerge, they discover they have been given a wonderful gift: they have the ability to create reality from their thoughts.

At this point, the film becomes quite dark because, as Dustin Hoffmanâs character put it, we human beings are so primitive, the only thoughts we create are fearful ones. As a result, each crew member has to face a dangerous reality where they are confronted by their deepest fears.

The final part of the film sees the crew members standing in a circle and agreeing to forgetâ their new found gift and the sphere shoots up through the ocean and back out into the great unknown from whence it came.

As I saw this film, I smiled, because, although the plot would be classed as science-fiction, to me it held an important truth within the frames: we create our own reality with our thoughts.

We need to take great responsibility for our thoughts for they have a resounding effect which take shape in our outer world. Just like in the film, if we are afraid, that fear will colour our reality until we have the courage to turn around and face it.

Our dreams reflect the blueprints of our semi-conscious thoughts, the shape of things to come. By working on the dream and gleaning from it the little gem of self-knowledge from it, we are given an opportunity to accelerate the blossoming of the thought or defuse it before it does any damage by making the necessary changes in our conscious world. We also are given the opportunity to know our true selves, hidden behind the many masks we wear for the benefit of others.

Your dreams provide you with an inner map of your outer reality. They emerge from the greater part of you not governed by time. They have the ability to heal your past, make sense of your present and prepare you for a possible future being shaped by your thoughts.

So, next time you dream of earthquakes, global disasters and economic disasters, put aside the idea that they are of a precognitive nature and apply the symbolism to yourself. To change your world, it up to you to change yourself first.

If you are interested in learning more about yourself through dream exploration, I am currently running a twice monthly dream group in North London. Contact Carole Murray for more information:
